Top Ten Career Mistakes

Good one from the archives – an article published in 2009 on money.usnews.com by Michael Wade detailing his top 10 career mistakes.  These are great nuggets to learn from and avoid.  For the full article, see 10 Career Mistakes I’ve Made.

I really appreciated being reminded of mistake #3:

Looking at the world through a mirror rather than a window

For me, this mistake has a couple of meanings.  First, life and one’s career is like driving a car, you need to look forward to get anywhere.  Keep checking the rearview mirror to see who is coming up and to learn from where you have been – but keep your eyes trained forward.  Secondly, it is not all about me and what I can get.  When I look in a bathroom mirror, the focus of my attention is on me whereas when I look out a window I see others.  By placing my focus on others, I have a better chance at a successful career (and better life).

Enjoy the read and avoid the mistakes.
