What Makes You Different?

While reading a job advice column the other day, the recruiter being interviewed offered the advice to know “What makes you different.”  It made me think of a blog entry I penned five months ago about branding oneself:  https://irishcareerman.wordpress.com/2010/05/14/who-are-you-personal-branding/

It is important for job hunters to know what separates themselves from other job hunters.  Having a college degree is not a separator, work experience may or may not be the item, certain skill sets (technical, language, etc.) could be.  Think about what will make you memorable and that supplies an answer to a demonstrated need of the company with whom you are interviewing.

Take some time to think about what makes you different and how that applies to the needs of the interviewer – if you can find a match in this exercise, you increase your chances of helping the employer see you as a match to their organization.
